Dr. Steven Wong started his solo practice in 1982 in Manhattan, after completing his training in St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Through his dedication, passion and hard work, Dr. Wong quickly became one of the best surgeons in New York City. Dr. Wong has been listed in several editions of Castle Connolly Medical Ltd.’s “NY Top Doctors”, and Consumers’ Research Council of America’s “America’s Top Surgeons”.
Due to his engineering background, Dr. Wong has always been interested in new technologies and how they can help provide his patients with the most advanced surgical care possible. In 1996, Dr. Wong implemented ultrasound to diagnose breast lesions among many other ultrasound applications in his practice. He became one of the the first surgeons in the New York City area to conduct ultrasound-guided vacuum-assisted breast biopsies. This outpatient procedure is now the standard method for accurate, safe, and minimally-invasive biopsies of the breast. With years of experience treating Chinatown patients, Dr. Wong has become the most reputable surgeon in our community.
As his practice grew, Dr. Wong established Chinatown General Surgery/ Steven Wong, MD, PC in 2006. He recruited one of his best residents at St. Vincent’s, Dr. Mingke Wang, to join his practice in 2008. Dr. Wang mainly concentrated on general surgery while Dr. Wong focused on breast surgery. In 2012, Dr. Steven Cai joined the practice and has taken over most general surgery procedures. Dr. Wang works with Dr. Wong to serve our breast surgery patients.
